PLEASE FRIENDS, SIGN THE PETITION AGAINST DOG KILLINGS IN BELGRAD, IN THE
Belgrade authorities announced (thru media) a big roundup of street/abandoned Dogs.
Reason for this "street cleaning" is a sport manifestation "The European Olympic Youth Festival" (will be held from 21 to 28 July in Belgrade . )

Belgrade authorities practice "street cleaning" for every manifestation they host, this "cleaning" means that all street dogs residing in the area of planed festival- has to be gone. Many are killed by inhumane methods (and you can read about those methods here: www.c4sain.bravehost.com/Reports.html > those are past cases for which we have documentation )
and some Dogs do get bought off from shinters/dog catchers - but meny suffer badly by the time they were held in city kill pound "OVCA".
Shinters/dogcatchers are not animal control agency- they are communal enterprises working on controlling the pest population and are using poisons and other chemicals (like T-61) to kill unwanted Dogs.
If those young people (that are to take participation in this Festiva ) knew what is happening just so they can come in Belgrade and play some game, they would never come.
If those sportiests knew for this massacre of abandoned Dogs, they would not play the game.

In accordance with its statute it pleads
for respect of animal rights within the existing laws. It
also pleads for constitutional formulation of animal rights
and passing new laws and also criminal law against maltreatment
and brutality with animals. We endeavor to establish constructive
cooperation with the institutions of the system - state and
community, exclusively within the frames of law and in favor
of animals. This is sometimes difficult to attain because
in our country there are a great many individuals who hold
important positions but are not always willing to prevent
anti-animal behavior of citizens, organizations and institutions.
The asylum FRIEND is in Subotica, Titogradska
St. 53. In accordance with our moderate financial means we
ensure stay, food and, if necessary, a treatment for 300 dogs
that were abandoned by their masters. For many of them we
find a new home.
All dogs are very devoted to man, but that
love is not always mutual. This is why we endeavor to alleviate
the injustice, pain and suffering made to them by some people.
We are ashamed of everyday rudeness and pain being made to
animals by such evil persons. We believe that these wonderful
beings have the right to live on the Earth as well as human
race. We are convinced that a man, as a dominant species,
is responsible to enable this.
